NEMA 17 STEPPER MOTOR
JK42HS40-1704-13A:
---
What it is
It is a hybrid stepper motor, likely a NEMA 17 size (i.e. 42 × 42 mm flange) with a 40 mm body length.
It has a 2-phase, 4-wire configuration.
The step angle is 1.8 per step.

Electrical / mechanical specs (approximate / published datasheet values)
From datasheet / listings:
Rated current: ~ 1.7 A per phase
Resistance per phase: ~ 1.5 Ω (some listings)
Holding torque: ~ 0.42 N·m (≈ 4.2 kg·cm)
Dimensions: 42 × 42 × 40 mm (flange × body)
Shaft diameter: ~ 5 mm (with flat)
Key Spec: Holding Torque
The holding torque is specified as 0.42 N·m (≈ 4.2 kg·cm) in its datasheet.
Some listings also say “4.0 kg·cm” (≈ 0.40 N·m) as the holding torque.
Another spec sheet shows 4.2 kg·cm (≈ 0.42 N·m) for this motor.
So the motor can hold up to about 0.42 N·m of torque when stationary (i.e. resisting motion), under ideal conditions.
---
What that means in practice
Rotational load: If you convert that torque to a force at a lever arm, e.g. if you had a lever arm of 10 cm (0.1 m) from the shaft axis, then the motor could theoretically hold up a load of:
F = \frac{\tau}{r} = \frac{0.42 \text{ N·m}}{0.10 \text{ m}} = 4.2 \text{ N} \approx 0.43 \text{ kg}
(i.e. about 430 grams) in that configuration, neglecting losses (friction, gearing, dynamic loads, etc.)
Dynamic conditions: Under motion (especially at higher speeds), the effective torque drops. So you cannot use full holding torque continuously under load at speed.
Safety margin: It’s wise to design for a lower torque margin, e.g. using only 30-70 % of the holding torque for reliable operation, to avoid skipping steps or overheating.
Load type matters: If your load has inertia (i.e. heavy rotating elements), the motor might struggle to accelerate it even if holding torque is sufficient.

If you tell me your mechanism (lever arm length, gear reduction, speed, orientation, etc.), I can estimate how much actual load weight this motor can realistically drive in your setup. Do you want me to compute that for your usecase?
